Community of Caring

 

The Community of Caring program serves pregnant women and mothers in need of support.  The focus is on assisting mothers and mothers-to-be to achieve healthy pregnancies and births as well as improving parenting skills and the emotional well-being of the family.

Counseling
In home mental health counseling in the areas of anxiety and depression is available along with relationship counseling, budgeting, educational information and anger management.  Counseling is individualized to meet the needs of each mother.

Parenting
We provide parenting information and classes based on Nurturing Parenting curriculum.  Common topics of discussion include discipline and toilet training.  We also provide prenatal and postpartum counseling to mothers and families.

Information and Referral
We will answer your questions and see that you are referred to other service agencies when Community of Caring is unable to accommodate your needs.

Transportation
We provide limited transportation for you to prenatal Doctor visits as well as other important appointments.

Advocacy
We help you and your children get the services that you need to be healthy.

This is what you can expect from us:

· You will be treated with dignity and respect.

· You will be offered help and be referred to others who can help.

· You will be listened to.

What is expected from you?

· You must have a commitment to help yourself and your family.

· You must have a willingness to work towards parenting goals.

· You must believe in yourself

If you are pregnant or parenting, a Livingston county resident and in need of some support we can help.

The Community of Caring Program is operated under the auspices of Catholic Charities of Livingston County and all services are provided on a nonsectarian basis, regardless of religion, race or national origin.  Funding is provided by the Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation, the Livingston County Youth Bureau, and the Office of Mental Health. 


Donations

The program can always use donations of gently used baby items along with diapers of all sizes, wipes, etc.  If your organization is looking for a fun event, consider sponsoring a baby shower for our program.  Please contact our program director for more details.

 

Volunteers

Consider volunteering in our Mentor Moms Program and share your knowledge and love of parenting with a new mom!
